Hale Place has had pets at the home since 1988 which have included dogs, cats, rabbits, tortoises and budgies. The joy, love and affection that has been derived from them has been immeasurable with residents benefiting from therapeutic qualities as a result of interaction, petting and caring.
We, also, encourage individuals to bring their pets with them when entering our homes because a resident’s much-loved animal is an integral part of their life. We encourage people to care for their pet, this provides structure to their day: a reason to get up in the morning to check and feed their pet, and perhaps also to groom or exercise it.
Research has confirmed that pets provide both physical and psychological benefits and can be an effective antidote to loneliness. The primary benefit to our service users is one of companionship and emotional attachment. Many of our residents interact with the homes pets on a daily basis and care for them as their own.
