It is our philosophy that keeping people with dementia occupied and stimulated improves their quality of life, this approach is at the heart of all we do and is undertaken through a range of fun and exciting activities.
Engagement in our philosophy makes the person feel valued, enhances the sense of dignity and self-esteem by giving purpose and meaning to their life and promotes feelings of happiness which helps the service user relax, increases their sense of well-being. Improving fitness through regular exercise also helps develop a healthy appetite, increases energy levels and promotes a better night’s sleep.
Finding suitable activities
Our individualised programme of dementia ventures focus on the structure of time appropriate to the person, reflecting his or her interests. We spend time finding out what a person’s favourite hobbies and interests are, then, as their dementia progresses, we develop imaginative ways to adapt service users preferred outings to their changing capabilities and moods. We constantly encourage a person to try ‘new’ activities which will often bring about a sense of excitement and gratification.
