Dementia Care

An Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis can feel frightening and overwhelming. We’re here to help you make sense of what’s happening, and to support your loved one to feel safe, known and settled in a real home from home.

Dementia Care

What is Specialist Dementia Care?

Specialist dementia care means dementia is what we do, every day.

It’s care from a team who understands how dementia affects memory, communication and confidence, and who responds with calm, patience and kindness at every stage. We explain things simply, and we shape each day around what helps someone feel safe, settled and understood.

Since 1988, we’ve supported people living with dementia by creating calm, familiar environments and building routines around comfort, joy and meaning.

If you’d like to talk it through, we’re here. We’ll listen, answer your questions, and help you work out the next step.

Dementia Care

Who is it for?

We support people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, including vascular, Lewy body, frontotemporal and mixed dementia, at every stage from early diagnosis through to more advanced support needs.

We support people who are experiencing memory loss, confusion, changes in behaviour, communication difficulties, or mobility challenges related to their dementia. Our village-style supported living homes are designed for people in the earlier stages who need companionship, structure and gentle assistance. Our residential care homes provide full specialist care for people at all stages, including people who need a higher level of support day to day.

If your loved one's dementia is progressing and they need more specialist support than a general care home can provide, we're here to help. We understand and we know how to care for them. We focus on the person, and on helping them live well moment to moment.

Dementia Care

Our Approach

Our team understands how dementia can affect memory, communication, confidence and mood, and responds with calm, patience and reassurance.

We use simple, proven approaches to support memory and engagement, including music, sensory activities and gentle movement. Meals are prepared with care and adapted when eating becomes more difficult, so everyone can enjoy food safely and comfortably.

Our homes are arranged to reduce confusion and support independence, with familiar layouts, calm spaces and accessible gardens where people can move freely.

Most importantly, we build real relationships. Many of our team have been with us for years. They know each person’s history, habits and what brings them comfort. That continuity makes all the difference.

TESTIMONIALS

What people say about us...

The care and stimulation provided is outstanding. Mum is treated as a member of a family. She is happy and stimulated, and partakes in all the activities provided. We feel very confident that Mum's daily needs and welfare are met to the highest standard. We are kept informed of any concerns. We believe this care home allows her to live the best possible life.

Exceptional. I have noticed so much difference and improvement in cognitive abilities. This is due to a safe and supportive environment where every need is not just met but exceeded. Resulting in a relaxed, happy, well nourished, well hydrated person. I had no idea that dementia could be improved so much with such specialised and precise care. Thank you.

Friend of Resident

An outstanding care provider, as a family we have been so relieved to know that our mother is so well looked after, the staff really have got to know her and the activities have meant that our mother feels as busy as she was before she got dementia.

The best thing we found with Hale Place is the trips they took Nan out on. It's lovely and reassuring to see Nan smiling in the pictures. Hale Place is truly one in a million.

CQC Outstanding

We were the first in Kent to be rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, and the first in England to have two registered homes achieve that rating. It’s something the whole team is incredibly proud of.

The important questions

What makes Hale Place's dementia care "specialist"?

It means dementia is what we do, every day. Our team understands how dementia can affect memory, communication, behaviour and confidence. We respond with calm, patience and kindness, shaping each day around what helps someone feel safe, understood and settled. We focus on the person behind the diagnosis, building routines around familiarity, comfort and small moments of joy.

When should someone move into dementia care?

There isn’t one single right moment. Families often start exploring care when home feels less safe, daily life becomes overwhelming, or the level of support needed increases. Sometimes it’s increasing physical care. Sometimes it’s the emotional strain of holding everything together. If you’re feeling exhausted, worried about safety, or unsure how to manage the next stage, it may be time to talk. A conversation doesn’t commit you to anything. It simply helps you understand your options.

How do you handle challenging behaviour related to dementia?

We don’t see behaviour as “challenging”. We see it as communication. When someone becomes distressed or unsettled, we ask what might be underneath it. Are they uncomfortable? Confused? Overstimulated? Missing someone? We respond with reassurance, gentle adjustments to the environment and simple changes that reduce distress. Understanding always comes first.
